Facts About Babies That You Might Not Know | apicsud's blog

Watching kids develop can fascinate you. The complexity of how a child goes from being a zygote to a functioning adult in just a few years is fascinating. There is more to being a baby than is immediately discernable. Babies are far more complex than people think. They have their own sets of wants and needs that must be met to ensure that they develop properly. Being a baby is far from simple. The more you understand about child development the better parent you will be!

Babies have three hundred bones in their bodies when they are born. There are only two hundred and six bones in an adult’s body. This makes it sound like the bones disappear but the truth is that many of the bones that are separate at birth fuse together into larger bones as children grow up. Many adults believe that it is the fusing of the bones that causes them to lose their flexibility-they believe that the individual bones gave them better ranges of motions. Think about it: how often are you able to eat your own feet as a grown up?

In spite of taking a few months to start forming words that adults can identify, the range of sounds babies can make is amazing. It takes a while for an infant’s voice box to finish forming, which is why it can make so many amazing sounds so soon! Adult voice boxes have already begun to stiffen up, which is why babies are better at creating new sounds. Babies quickly start to assign the sounds they make to the things that they want or need. This is how a baby’s mother can usually figure out what her child wants just by listening to the sounds her baby is making. Another interesting fact is that most babies’ first words are simple words that involve the consonants and vowels that are made with the front of the mouth. Babies will usually say “dada” before “mama” because “dada” uses the front of the mouth and is easier for the baby to learn to say-and it’s first utterance is almost always an accident!

Were you aware that babies grow tails as they develop in the womb? That is no lie! As your baby’s cells divide, the major organs (heart, lungs, brain) begin to form and so does a tail!

The tail will begin to disappear as the rest of the baby’s body takes shape as it grows inside the mother’s womb. It is not unlike the way frogs develop from tadpoles. Not everyone completely outgrows their tails-some people are born with tails that are still partially intact. From here the parents can choose whether to have the tail removed or to hope that it disappears over time. You won’t have to worry about the affect to your baby if you have the tail removed-it does not affect your baby’s health and the surgery is pretty simple. Babies are really interesting little people. We have yet to figure out just how quickly babies learn and by what process they retain those things. There is nothing like watching a baby grow from an infant into an adult-it is a fascinating and mind boggling process!
