Things You Might Not Yet Know About Babies | Blogging Fresh ...

You probably already know a few things about babies. You’ve been told that babies take time to recognize people. You already know that a baby will understand on instinct who his mother is even within a minute of being born. There is no set rate for baby development, but most people already understand that fact. There is no set date for walking, talking, forming complete sentences, potty training, rolling over, etc. Unfortunately not many people understand child development beyond the examples already written in this introduction. Infancy is a fascinating period in human development. Between conception and toddlerhood is an incredibly exciting time. It doesn’t look like babies do all that much in their first years of life but beneath that calm (and sometimes fussy) exterior is a factory that is working like mad to grow, change and develop!

Babies have three hundred bones in their bodies when they are born. When a person becomes an adult there are only two hundred and six bones in his or her body. This makes it sound like the bones disappear but the truth is that many of the bones that are separate at birth fuse together into larger bones as children grow up. It is a commonly held belief that the fusing of the bones is what causes adults to lose some of their flexibility-because the individual bones can no longer move independently of each other. If you stop to think about it, it does make some sense: when was the last time you could put your feet in your mouth?

Even though it can take a few months for a baby to form specific words, their range of vocals is quite impressive. This is because the larynx (or voice box) is still developing after babies are born. It is due to this that a baby can make more sounds than an adult can make. Pay attention to your baby’s sounds: it won’t take long for him to assign specific sounds to specific needs or things. It is because of this that a mother is able to learn what a child wants just by listening to him cry for a few seconds. A baby’s first word is usually one that he can make using the consonants made by the front of his mouth and a couple of vowel sounds. “Dada” is usually a first word because it is easier for the baby to say than “mama” and it is almost always an accident!

Even though you want to avoid mercury, you can still have fish-just make sure it is a mercury free species! Eating salmon while you are pregnant is good because salmon is chock full of healthy nutrients for you and your baby and it does not contain mercury the way other types of fish do. It is believed that eating fish both improves the brain function of a fetus and sets them up for superior communication skills later in life and that women who do not eat fish will not be able to pass these things along to their children. Of course this has yet to be scientifically proven so, if you do not particularly like salmon, don’t lose sleep over this. Many people are fascinated by babies. Nobody really knows exactly how they learn or how quickly they learn it. One thing is for certain: babies change every day and watching them grow up is amazing.
