Early childhood development is an amazing subject. The way babies grow from a small ball of cells into fully functioning human beings boggles the brains of most people. The fact is that there is a lot more to a baby that initially meets the eye. Babies are far more complex than people think. They each have individual needs and wants that parents need to take care of to make sure that development occurs the way it should. There is so much more to infancy development than most people realize. Good parents learn everything they can about how their children are developing, even in the early stages of infancy.

The skull of a baby is still in independent plates at the time of birth. This is just one of the things that makes a newborn so fragile to hold. If you are not careful when you are handling your babys head, you could accidentally do quite a bit of damage so tread lightly and carefully when you hold your newborn! About three months after your baby is born its skull plates will have started to fuse together and you wont have to be quite so careful with the soft spot at the back of his or her head. You do still need to be careful though because it can take up to eighteen months for the frontal parts of the skull to calcify and harden. Even while a baby is in the womb he can hear sounds, but you already know that. Many sounds cause babies to have strong reactionsreactions that have been recorded before the baby is born. Did you already know that a babys ears are very sensitive to different decibel levels even while they are in the womb? Even before the baby is birthed, his ears are very sensitive. Your doctor will probably tell you that a good gauge for what is too loud is your vacuum cleaner: if your television or music is louder than the vacuum then that music or television show needs its volume turned down! The goal is to keep the noise down as much as possible but loud enough that you can still hear it; avoiding construction areas and places with heavy traffic sounds when you leave the house is also a good idea.

While most doctors recommend against consuming mercury while a woman is pregnant, eating non mercury forms of fish can be quite healthy. Many doctors recommend eating salmon regularly because it does not contain mercury the way other fish do and because it contains all sorts of healthy things that a mother needs for her growing fetus. There are those who say that a woman who eats fish regularly during her pregnancy will give birth to babies with better developed brains and a better capacity for communication than babies carried by women who did not eat fish regularly during their pregnancies. Of course this has yet to be scientifically proven so, if you do not particularly like salmon, dont lose sleep over this. Babies are really fun to learn about. Nobody knows for sure exactly how they learn or how fast they pick things up. Babies are constantly growing and changing and watching them mature and develop is something everyone should experience.
