Things You Might Not Know About Babies | soout.com

Most people understand that babies eat a lot, sleep a lot and go through a lot of diapers. Has someone taught you why a babys body moves the way it does? Do you know why babies develop the way they do? Most of us dont worry about the minutiae of infant development. For people who are interested in becoming parents, however, baby and early childhood development is a fascinating subject.

Babies are full of surprises! At least half the things you thought you knew about babies might not even be true at all! Read on to learn more about babies and early childhood development!

When a baby is born his or her skull plates are not fused. The non-fused skull is one of the reasons that so many adults are afraid to hold newborn children. Your babys soft spot is nothing to play around withif you are not careful you could cause your baby serious harm. About three months after your baby is born its skull plates will have started to fuse together and you wont have to be quite so careful with the soft spot at the back of his or her head. Dont get too careless though because it can take as long as eighteen months for the frontal skull plates to harden all the way!

Did you know that not all babies are born toothless? On the other hand, other babies dont even start teething until they are more than a year old.

Most parents dread the teething process. Dont worry too much about when your childs first teeth will start to appear. All babies develop at their own paces and even if your other children started teething at a certain age, there is no guarantee that this baby will do the same.

It is easier for babies to learn how to communicate with their parents physically than it is for them to learn how to do so verbally. This is why so many parents swear by the Baby Signs program. These parents teach their kids how to sign for things like food, drink, diaper changes, naps, etc and it makes it a lot easier for babies to communicate what they need. Some research has even shown that babies who learn to communicate with the baby signs program (before they learn to talk) go on to have stronger communication skills that people who were not taught physical forms of communication at an early age. There are new discoveries being made constantly about babies and infant development. What is certain today could be an old wives tale tomorrow! Are you really surprised by how confusion most people find infancy since you now know how rapidly new discoveries are being made? Keeping up with the science does not have to be difficult. Babies are more than tiny, barely functioning humans. Babies are actually very complex and have their own sets of needs that must be met. All mothers and fathers need to know how to communicate with their kids. It is important that you learn all you can about your childs development. Your parenting skills will be better if you understand what is going on.
