Interesting Facts About Babies « EraNostra

Watching kids develop can fascinate you. The way babies grow from a small ball of cells into fully functioning human beings boggles the brains of most people. There is more to being a baby than is immediately discernable. There is more to being a baby than simply being cute. Babies have very specific needs that must be met or they will not grow up properly. There is nothing simple about infancy and early childhood. Being a parent is easier if you understand what is going on as your child grows from baby to small kid to teenager and onward.

Babies have three hundred bones in their bodies when they are born. By the time a person reaches adulthood there are only two hundred and six bones in the body. Contrary to how this sounds, you never actually lose bones-some of the individual bones that you are born with simply fuse together to form single bones. It is a commonly held belief that the fusing of the bones is what causes adults to lose some of their flexibility-because the individual bones can no longer move independently of each other. There is some logic to this-after all, when was the last time you could put your feet behind your head? It is common knowledge that babies can hear while they are still inside of their mothers. Many sounds cause babies to have strong reactions-reactions that have been recorded before the baby is born. Did you already know that a baby’s ears are very sensitive to different decibel levels even while they are in the womb? Those are impressionable ears even before the birthing process! The loudest sound your infant should be subjected to (inside the womb or outside of it) is the household vacuum cleaner. The goal is to keep the noise down as much as possible but loud enough that you can still hear it; avoiding construction areas and places with heavy traffic sounds when you leave the house is also a good idea.

Did you know that at one point your baby had a tail? That is no lie! Your baby’s tail starts to form at the same time that the other organs like the brain and the heart and the lungs begin to develop.

As your baby grows inside of you the rest of his body develops and the tail usually ends up disappearing-it sort of blends in to the rest of the body as it grows. The whole process is similar to the way tadpoles grow up to be tail-less frogs. Not everyone completely outgrows their tails-some people are born with tails that are still partially intact. Surgical removal and waiting for it to be grown into are the two options that are available to parents whose babies are born with intact tails. Thankfully, the tail has no bearing on the rest of the child’s health and can be removed without worry.

You will be astounded by all of the things that you can learn about babies. Sure you probably already know that babies develop really quickly. But do you know just how they develop? Has anybody told you just how many changes occur between when your baby is conceived and when he or she has a baby of his or her own? Your knowledge of babies is already expanding-don’t you want to learn more about this fascinating subject?
