Stitched Valentine Cards Tutorial

My 2012 New Year’s Resolution was to stop procrastinating! I can’t say that I’ve been successful in all areas, but I’m proud to report that I have almost completed the Valentine’s cards for the 4 special girls in my life. This year I stitched my cards!

I started by disassembling a greeting card envelope. Here is a printable template in case you don’t have a greeting card envelope laying around (I had to go buy a card -  I didn’t have a single card laying around. Hope this template saves you a trip to the store to get one!)

Next, iron Wonder Under (a handy fusible interfacing that you use to fuse 2 fabrics together) to the wrong side of your fabric per the Wonder Under instructions. In my case, I fused to the fabric that will be the inside of my envelope. Let cool and cut your envelope out. A little note about Wonder Under: I always find it to be easier to fuse it to the fabric prior to cutting out the pattern so you don’t get a sticky mess on your iron. Peel the paper backing off of your Wonder Under and position the fusible side down on the wrong side of what will become the outside of your envelope.

With the inner and outer envelope piece now fused together, cut out the outer envelope piece to match the inner envelope piece. Fold short sides of the envelope inward and press. Then fold bottom envelope piece inward and press.

At this point you can decorate the outside of your envelope with more stitching and/or pieces of fabric to mimic a stamp (Wonder Under comes in handy for this part as well!)

After adding the final touches, place a closure and decorate your 4 X 6 card to place into the envelope. Some ideas for a closure are a button, a snap and a little velcro circle.

These were fun! My girls are certain to love them.
